Frequently Asked Questions
An individual license is an option for private individuals who purchase a license with their own funds, and solely for their own use. Individual licenses may be used for commercial work (e.g. by an independent contractor), but they are not to be purchased, refunded or in any way financed by companies.
Community licenses can be freely used for any non-commercial use, while limited commercial use is allowed in smaller companies. Specifically, in non-enterprise organizations, up to five users can use QueryStorm Community. In enterprise organizations (>$1 Million US Dollars in annual revenue), no commercial use is permitted.
Users in enterprise organizations can generate a free 30 day trial key for trial purposes. They can also use the community version, provided it is only being used non-commercially.
To manage your licenses, please create an account on Keystodian (our license management portal). Make sure to use the same email address that your keys are registered to. The portal allows you to view and manage your keys.
Note that the credentials you define on the licensing portal can also be used in the activation prompt to activate QueryStorm.
Yes, you can transfer licenses as often as you like. The licensing prompt offers three ways of activating, all of which are applicable for transferring licenses as well:
- Sending a transfer link via email
- Using your existing key on another machine
- Using your license portal credentials in the license prompt
All three methods will deactivate a previously activate machine (if the key has no more available slots).
No, your clients only need the QueryStorm runtime which does not require a license.
All licenses are perpetual. Once you buy a license it’s yours forever. During payment, a support subscription is created, but if you’re not interested in support and staying up to date with new versions, you can cancel your subscription immediately without affecting your license or the currently started year of support.
Yes, you do not need to pay for an entirely new license to add support to an existing license. However, we charge a one-time 25% fee for reactivating deactivated subscriptions. For example, if the subscription cost is $199, you will be charged $249 initially ($199 for the year + $50 reactivation fee) and then $199 on following years.
Yes, your domain administrator can install and activate it remotely on multiple machines on your domain. For help with this, please get in touch.
Yes, you can publish (and optionally sell) your own extensions. You can also license and sell your smart workbooks.
Extensions: If you would like to publish a generally useful extension package to the official QueryStorm feed, contact us to submit it for publication. You can, of course, freely publish any packages to your own Azure servers. If you would like to sell licenses for an extension that you built, our transaction fee will be 20% (in case the extension is distributed via on your Azure Artifacts server) or 30% if it will be hosted on the official QueryStorm feed.
Workbooks: If you would like to license a workbook to your clients, you can do so as well, using the same licensing and payment infrastructure that QueryStorm itself uses. This allows you to sell workbooks without worrying about your intellectual property (simply remove all code and leave the compiled dlls inside the workbook) or worrying about how to charge for them per machine.
In both cases (licensing workbooks or extensions) the process is simple. You install the Keystodian.Client NuGet package to your project and make sure to call the method for checking the license at the appropriate time (at startup or at function call). In addition, you will need to register for vendor status at keystodian.com and define your product there.
